Role Overview
The Vice President of Upstate SORBA serves as a key leadership partner to the President and Board of Directors — helping guide the organization’s mission to build, maintain, and advocate for sustainable mountain bike trails across the Upstate of South Carolina.
This volunteer leadership position focuses on organizational support, coordination, and leadership continuity, ensuring smooth operations and strong communication between board members, volunteers, and community partners. Key Responsibilities
Leadership & Support
Assist the President in leading the Board of Directors and advancing the organization’s goals.
Serve as acting President when the President is unavailable or as delegated.
Provide guidance and support to coordinators and committees to ensure collaboration across areas such as trails, events, membership, and communications.
Help identify and develop new leaders within the volunteer base, fostering long-term organizational sustainability.
Organizational Coordination

Role Overview
The Treasurer of Upstate SORBA serves as the organization’s financial steward, ensuring transparency, accuracy, and accountability in all monetary matters. As a key member of the Board of Directors, the Treasurer manages financial operations, maintains detailed records, and provides clear reporting to the board, members, and partner organizations.
This volunteer leadership position is vital for sustaining Upstate SORBA’s mission to build, maintain, and advocate for sustainable trails throughout the Upstate of South Carolina. The Treasurer helps ensure that the resources raised through memberships, donations, sponsorships, and grants are used effectively to keep the trails — and the community — rolling strong.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Management & Recordkeeping
Maintain accurate and up-to-date financial records for all organizational transactions.
Manage the organization’s bank accounts, incoming funds, and outgoing payments.
Reconcile statements monthly and ensure transparency in all financial activity.
Oversee digital and physical storage of financial documents (e.g., receipts, invoices, reports).
Budgeting & Planning
Develop and present an annual budget for board approval.
Monitor actual income and expenses against the budget throughout the year.
Provide regular updates to the board on financial status, trends, and projections.

Membership Management & Growth
Serve as the primary point of contact for membership inquiries and information.
Coordinate with SORBA Main and work within our CRM to ensure accurate member records, renewals, and reporting.
Track membership numbers, renewals, and trends to inform outreach and growth strategies.
Develop and implement initiatives to increase local membership — such as membership drives, renewal reminders, or partnerships with local bike shops and community partners.
Member Engagement & Retention
Welcome new members with a warm introduction to Upstate SORBA — share information about trails, volunteer opportunities, and upcoming events.
Develop simple onboarding materials or welcome emails to help new members get involved quickly.
Collaborate with the Communications Coordinator to feature member spotlights, testimonials, or volunteer highlights in newsletters and social media.
Ensure members feel valued and appreciated through recognition at events, anniversaries, or milestone achievements.
Collaboration & Outreach
Work with the Events Coordinator to plan member-focused activities such as socials, appreciation events, or “Members Ride Free” days.
Partner with the Group Rides Coordinator to make group rides a welcoming entry point for new members.
Support board initiatives related to fundraising, advocacy, and community partnerships by helping connect those efforts to member participation.
Reporting & Administration
Maintain accurate membership data and provide updates to the Upstate SORBA Board (monthly or quarterly).
Monitor membership renewal cycles and send reminders as needed.
Help ensure membership materials (web pages, handouts, digital forms) are up to date and consistent with SORBA/IMBA processes.

You’ll work closely with board members, ride leaders, and volunteers to build community, strengthen engagement, and encourage participation in trail work, membership, and events.
Key Responsibilities
Ride Planning & Coordination
Schedule and coordinate regular group rides for various skill levels across Upstate SORBA-supported trails (e.g., Paris Mountain, Pleasant Ridge, Lakeside, Saluda Confluence, Conestee, etc).
Recruit, brief, and support volunteer ride leaders and sweepers.
Ensure rides follow safety, land-use, and environmental best practices.
Community Engagement
Welcome new riders and help connect them to SORBA membership, volunteer opportunities, and trail projects.
Promote inclusivity and fun — making rides a gateway for riders to become active trail stewards.
Capture feedback to improve the ride experience and grow participation.
Communications & Promotion
Collaborate with the Communications Coordinator to promote rides on Facebook, Instagram, email, and UpstateSORBA.com.
Keep the ride calendar updated and ensure last-minute changes (like weather cancellations) are communicated promptly.
Share ride photos, stories, and milestones to highlight community spirit.
Safety & Compliance
Ensure ride leaders understand group-ride etiquette, emergency protocols, and trail rules.

Trail Crew Leads supervise small volunteer crews during trail workdays, ensuring tasks are completed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with SORBA and land manager best practices. They are critical to turning the organization’s trail maintenance plans into tangible results on the ground.

Volunteer Crew Leadership
Lead small groups of volunteers during trail workdays, ensuring all participants are productive, safe, and engaged.
Provide clear instructions on tasks such as trail building, erosion control, signage, and general maintenance.
